About Me

My name is Teal, though when I order coffee, it usually ends up as "Ted" or "Jill" or the worst, "Tila".  Life has been grand with my wonderful husband, Kevin, my toddler son, Keagan and my adorable bulldog, Turbo. Teal In Motion is a collective space for style posts, opining on music, parental musings and humorous reflections on life.

In 2010, I started my first iteration of this blog, titled Expecting Chic. When Kevin and I decided we wanted to expand our family, it occurred to me that while excited for the life change, I didn't want my world to be in a complete upheaval, from what I wore to the things I loved to do.  I wanted to find the best and most affordable ways to dress for pregnancy without compromising my personal style or my wallet. Feel free to browse through my three trimesters.

When it comes to personal style, I may wear some name brands, I hardly ever buy things at full price.  Nordstrom Rack, Macy's sale racks, online sales or consignment stores deliver what I need at a budget-friendly price. You may look at what I'm wearing and think, "Ugh, no."  Don't worry - there are days where I look at myself and think that, but it's all part of the larger experiment when playing with clothes.  I'm hoping instead that I inspire you to say, "Oooh, good idea!"  Regardless, what I wear won't be for everyone but my goal is to keep it very universal in concept so people can draw tips for their own spin on things.  I'm working with my own personal challenges: I'm 5'11" and its tough to find pants with long inseams.  I wear a size 11 shoe and though I covet beautiful shoes, my least favorite thing in the world is to shoe shop.  If I have to see one more salesperson look at me with pity when saying, "Oh, no...we only carry up to size 10," I'm going to lose it.

But that is the point - it's all about working with what you've got. And right now, we live in San Francisco, I've got a full-time job, a little boy on the run, a dog that likes to eat rubber balls whole and a husband who helps me capture it all on camera in a begrudging-yet-hugely supportive way.

Life moves fast and I'm happy that you are here to join me as I work it all out.  Feel free to comment or email with questions, thoughts or suggestions at any time!

  11. I love this blog!! I look forward to each post... and i have taken a LOT of your tips. My maternity wardrobe is something i think you (and my 25 week old fetus) would be proud of!! I'm living in southern california right now but i may be relocating to spokane, washington within the next 6 months because of my fiancee! How did you cope with the weather shock?

  12. Thanks, Rosemary! Get ready for a serious change in winter weather. You will see a lot of snow and a huge drop in temperatures so start stocking up on coats and layering pieces now. The summers in Spokane, however, can be really hot so your So. Cal wardrobe would be perfect! Good luck to you in your move but most of all with your new baby on the way!
