Well, it's official. I've found my latest earworm and I'm loving it - Remix (I Like It) by New Kids On The Block. Before you judge, allow me to explain.
A) I had a crush of epic proportions on Jordan when I was 10 years old. Posters of him beaming down at me were splattered across my room, his long rat tail casually draped over his shoulder. You couldn't convince me that we weren't going to get married someday and do The Right Stuff shuffle down the aisle. Oh-oh, oh, oh, oh...
B) Hello, Artemis! Artemis, infamous for It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, is the star of the video. If you aren't familiar, here is a teaser to get you acquainted.
C) I've had it with pop radio these days. Everything is an electronic beat. Autotune has taken over. House music influence has swept across the airwaves like a plague. I like my pop to be catchy, fun, bouncy and dance-able. I want to listen to a song that forces me to be that lady thrashing her head around and singing with abandon in her car during the morning commute. This song serves all these purposes for me.
D) Donny is, and will always be, my favorite Wahlberg.
Give it a listen. You won't regret it. And if you do, then just know that I don't regret sharing. In fact, I feel obligated to my childhood fantasy husband to be supportive.

Part of me is writing this purely so I can post this picture. For me, it defines a perfect weekend moment in time. Me, rocking the karaoke mic to a little classic Gn'R, and that girl, a fellow bar patron and woman of great musical taste, using every limb to dance in her seat while I wail. I couldn't be more pleased. This picture is from a couple of years ago, pre-baby, but while I may not rock out at bars every weekend anymore, music is still a major force in my life. I'm a Spotify junkie, creating lists for every occasion in my life. I thought I would share some of my current song obsessions and what I'll be listening to this weekend:
Madness, by Muse - This song oozes sexy and crazy at the same time. I can't get enough.
The Truth About Love, by Pink - While her voice is the vehicle, Pink's lyrics are the driver. Her songs always set out to tell a short story or scenario. She is my perfect pop star - a little rock and grit mixed in with radio friendly beats.
Super Rich Kids, by Frank Ocean - Anyone else morbidly obsessed with Rich Kids of Instagram? This song pretty much sums up that site in musical form. Plus, I could get lost in Frank Ocean's voice. Gorgeous.
Psychic City (Classixx Remix), by YACHT - If I'm not out having a $14 drink at a trendy bar on the weekend, at least I know the song I can imagine listening to if I was.
Only Wanna Give It To You, by Elle Varner - Finally, the return of true pounding R&B that we haven't seen since the late '90's. This is the palate cleanser after an overdose of club beats that seem to be taking over mainstream radio as of late.
Lemme See, by Usher feat. Rick Ross - "Don't talk about it, be about it." Hot.
Gangnam Style, by Psy - Because seriously, I will be over this song by next week. Why not enjoy it now?
Feel free to leave your song obsessions in the comments. Happy weekend!
